SWITCHING FROM CLAY
IN ONE WEEK.

Most failed switches are not the litter’s fault. They are the result of swapping everything overnight, which is the one thing a cat reliably objects to. Give it a week and let their paws do the deciding.

DAYS 1–3 · HALF AND HALF

Pour a layer of Kind Litter into the clean tray, then top it with roughly the same amount of their old litter. Don’t stir the two into a slurry — cats read texture with their feet, and a layered tray lets them stand on the new stuff without committing to it.

DAYS 4–5 · TIP THE RATIO

Move to about three-quarters Kind. Scoop as normal and you will start to feel the difference in the handle: the Kind clumps lift out whole and light, while the clay clumps stay heavy and want to crumble.

DAYS 6–7 · GO FULL KIND

Empty the tray and fill it with Kind only, about two inches deep. Depth matters more than people expect — too shallow and clumps stick to the base, too deep and your cat will dig for sport.

IF THEY HESITATE

Back up one step for a few days rather than pushing on. Keep the box scrupulously clean through the transition, and don’t introduce a scented tray cleaner mid-switch — that, not the litter, is often the thing they are avoiding.

MULTI-CAT HOUSES

Switch every box on the same schedule so nobody has a favourite to retreat to. With three or more cats, it is worth leaving one tray on the old litter until the last day.

DON’T MOVE THE BOX AND CHANGE THE LITTER IN THE SAME WEEK.

DO

• Give it seven days, three ratios.
• Keep the tray in exactly the same place.
• Scoop more often than usual during the switch.
• Finish at about two inches deep.

DON’T

• Swap the whole tray in one go on day one.
• Switch during a move, a new pet, or a recovery week.
• Add scented deodoriser — Kind is unscented on purpose.
• Settle for a permanent mix; clay undoes the flushing.
